Several mayors and councilors of the Maresme district visited last Saturday the facilities of the new Centre Integral de Valorització de Residus del Maresme led by the mayor of Mataró, Joan Mora, chairman of the Consorci per al Tractament de Residus Sòlids Urbans del Maresme, and the deputy mayoress of the Mataró council, Núria Calpe.

Among them, there were the mayor of Caldes d’Estrac, Joaquim Arnó, and several concilors and technicians from Alella, Arenys de Mar, Arenys de Munt, Cabrera de Mar, Caldes, Masnou, Òrrius, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Santa Susanna and the Consell Comarcal del Maresme (Maresme District Council).

This is the second visit organized by the Consorci per al Tractament de Residus Sòlids Urbans del Maresme with representatives of the member city councils in order to show them the new facilities of the Centre, especially the new MBT plant.

The aim of the facility is the treatment of the mixed waste fraction to recover all the reusable materials, included the organic matter, and derive the combustible waste remaining to the Waste-to-Energy plant, which has also undergone improvements to adapt to the new combustible waste to treat.

The new facilities make it possible to exploit new renewable energy sources which complement the energy obtained from Waste-to-Energy plant and methanization (obtaining biogas from organic matter) with the largest photovoltaic solar roof cover in the Maresme district and the supply of heat to the municipal network District Heating and Cooling known as Tub Verd (Green Pipe).

The new Centre Integral de Valorització de Residus del Maresme has the advantage to include in one facility a wide variety of processes, complying with the proximity and sufficiency principles, and being at the same time a reference facility at international level.
