Participation success of the I Recuwatt Congress (Recycling and Energy)
More than 400 delegates filled the Auditori-Tecnocampus Mataró-Maresme to follow the congress where 28 speakers of several countries took part
Very positive outcome
The Consorci per al Tractament de Residus Sòlids Urbans del Maresme is very satisfied with the participation success of the first edition of RECUWATT, where more than 400 delegates attended the meeting (24 and 25 March).
This success reinforces the need in the sector of waste management to speak clearly and accurately about energy recovery from a global perspective, both thematically and geogràphically, with everything this entails. The subject has been debated from different viewpoints: legal, environmental, energetic, technological, scientific, economic, political, social, etc., with 35 participants (between speakers and moderators) from 9 different countries. Clearly, the sector demanded this meeting point to exchange knowledge.
Participation success and assessment of the talks
The over 400 delegates of the congress followed with interest the talks given the two days. This success of attendance caused the Auditori to become too small and forced the preparation of an auxiliary room to follow the sessions.
The participants had a chance to ask the speakers in public at the end of each session, or even talk privately afterwards. They also visited the area of posters and stands, and exchange impressions and start business relations in the networking area.
It is worth mentioning the good results of the evaluation made by the delegates of the speakers and talks quality, since they were all well known experts in their own professional fields.
Opening and closing the congress
During the opening, the first to talk was Joan Antoni Baron, mayor of Mataró, chairman of the Consorci per al Tractament de RSU del Maresme and Diputat de Medi Ambient de la Diputació de Barcelona. He pointed out “The importance of the locals in waste management, together with the complicity of the citizens and the synergy among territories.” After that, Josep Maria Tost, director of Agència de Residus de Catalunya, and Ana Rodríguez, subdirector of Producció i Consum Sostenible del Ministeri de Medi Ambient i Medi Rural i Marí (Department of Sustainable Production and Consumption of the Ministry of the Environment, the Rural Areas and the Marine Areas) spoke. Both of them highlighted the importance of the congress as a reflection and dialogue space on the energy recovery of urban waste. During the closing event, Baron and Tost expressed their satisfaction with the success of the congress.
